Dear Friend of the SS United States:

We hope this update finds you in good spirits and enjoying the summer! The SS United States Conservancy remains busy on several fronts, as described below. Please continue to check our website over the summer for further updates on our ongoing efforts to "save our ship."

In this update from the SS United States Conservancy:

* Commodore John Anderson's son joins the Conservancy's Executive Board

* SS United States documentary update

* 2007 Calendar is ready for pre-order

* Recent Conservancy/SS United States media coverage

* The SS United States Conservancy is pleased to announce
the addition of Mr. Charles B. Anderson, President of Anchor Marine Claims Services, to the Conservancy's Executive Board. Mr. Anderson is the son of Commodore John Anderson, master of the SS United States for 12 years. Mr. Anderson's deep personal connection to the Big U and his leadership in the international maritime community will further enhance the Conservancy's efforts to preserve the SS United States. Those who attended our meeting in Philadelphia in May will recall his entertaining presentation featuring his memories of his father's tenure aboard the SS United States. Welcome aboard Charles!

* Producer Bob Radler remains busy at work on his Big U documentary, tentatively titled "Lady in Waiting." Bob's interviews with former crewmembers, passengers and other fans of the ship during our May meeting went very well and he remains busy editing the footage. Our distribution deal with public television remains in effect and we're enthusiastically pursuing the completion of this very important project. This new film will introduce a whole new generation of Americans to the incredible legacy of the greatest American ocean liner ever produced. Stay tuned!

* The Conservancy is finalizing its 2007 calendar. Due to the success of our 2006 calendar, we're delighted that the publisher has decided to double the calendar's print run this year! To pre-order your 2007 calendar, please contact Turner Publishing at (800) 788-3350. The cost for the calendar is $14.95 (plus shipping and handling) and it will ship in October 2006.

* Reporter Rhoda Amon of New York Newsday attended our May meeting and produced a wonderful article that was published on June 18th. A link to the story follows:

Also in June, Travel Weekly, the national newspaper of the travel industry, published an article: "Classic liners: Some old ships get new lease on life". The SS United States earns an honorable mention and the article details some of the SOLAS regulations that affect the rebuilding of classic vessels. The link to the article may be found here:

Again, we thank you for your continued support and wish you the best for a wonderful July 4th holiday as we celebrate the 54th anniversary of the Big U's historic maiden voyage!

Sincerely,

Board of Directors
