SS United States News Spreading Across the Blogosphere

March 15, 2009 – In addition to important media coverage in major news outlets, the story of the SS United States is working its way into public awareness on the internet. Just as the great liners of the 20th century would radio one another of rough seas ahead, vessels in distress, and other important updates, today the blogosphere is an invaluable tool for spreading news. A Google blog search shows that there’s been much chatter about the plight of our national flagship since the news of her potential loss was announced last month. Here’s an excellent post via Theory on Everything. JimMcMillan.net offered this brief item (with a poignant photograph of the SS United States today) entitled “Who Can Save Our Ship?” Dan McSweeney’s powerful Op-Ed piece, “SOS For A National Treasure,” is making the rounds of the blogs as well. The story is even being picked up in such diverse places as Strangegirl.com. If you have a blog or website, please take a moment an add a link to the Conservancy’s blog, our main website, and to Dan’s column as well. If you’re on FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter, or other social networking sites, we’d deeply appreciate a link there as well, as this is how we can create a viral “Save Our Ship” campaign. We must spread the word before it’s too late. We must save the SS United States.
