Philladelphia Inquirer & Philly.com Announce Cronkite’s Support for SS United States
![]()
Updated March 27, 2009 – Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Sam Wood posted an article yesterday on Philly.com announcing Walter Cronkite lending his name in support of saving the SS United States. The same article is now also available on the Inquirer’s site as of this morning. One clarification: Mr. Cronkite will not be serving as Honorary Chairman of the Conservancy itself, rather of the Conservancy’s Advisory Council (other council members will be announced at our annual meeting in New York City at the Southstreet Seaport Museum on May 23, 2009). There are a few unfortunate comments from readers that follow the article on the Philly.com page, one even claiming that the ship is full of asbestos (it isn’t). Conservancy and SS United States supporters are encouraged to comment on the Philly.com article and set the record straight.
