This recent post in Philadelphia Weekly has drawn a lot of comments on whether the SS United States might be a suitable location for a casino in Philadelphia.

Members of the Conservancy have discussed this issue on several occasions and we clearly see both the good and bad points.

What do you think?

If plaing a casino aboard ship could help raise funds to restore her, then it might be an idea to seriously consider

Restoration into a casino is not exactly my idea of a good time but in this age of capitalism gone wrong then an income stream is needed to finance an immense project. What is done with the ship entirely depends on the ownership & this is the biggest question.
Can a nationally significant structure be trusted to private hands which demands a commercial return?
Leasing it to a reputable Casino or Hotel operator rather than allowing them to own is preferable.
Private ownership has not exactly been kind since 1969.
Control by trustees on behalf of public ownership that has a clear, unambiguous function of indefinite preservation is my idea of the way to ensure it’s future.
