Dear Friends of the SS United States:

Many of you have contacted the SS United States Conservancy to express your sorrow over the recent death of Michael Alexander, tireless advocate for the SS United States and founder of the premier website dedicated to the Big U.

The SS United States Conservancy is honored to report that it will partner with Mike's family to ensure that Mike's vibrant and inspirational website remains active and continues to express Mike's enduring passion for the SS United States far into the future.  We are committed to maintaining Mike's website as an independent source of information on the SS United States, and will do whatever we can to ensure that it endures as a powerful tribute to Mike's talent, dedication, and creativity.  The Conservancy will also honor Mike at its annual meeting this summer in Philadelphia; further details will follow in the coming months.

Mike Alexander's Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 26, in Columbus Ohio.  The service will take place at The Annunciation Greek
Orthodox Cathedral located at 555 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio, 43215. The service will begin at 9:30 AM followed by a special gathering in the Church Hall during which memories of Michael will be shared.  Mike's family invites those who shared Mike's dream of restoring the SS United States to join them in this special service.  For those of you unable to attend, please feel free to write down your thoughts about Mike and his passion.  These remembrances will be collected and shared at an informal gathering after the service.  Please email your recollections to Mike's mother, Toni Alexander.

In lieu of flowers, Mike's family has suggested donations to the following:

1) "The Mike Alexander Family Fund" (Checks should be made payable to Toni Alexander and sent to PO Box 82164, Columbus OH, 43202)

2) The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral (Checks should be mailed to 555 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio, 43215)

3) The SS United States Conservancy to maintain Mike's SS United States website (Checks should be made payable to the SS United States Preservation Society and noted "In Honor of Mike Alexander" and sent to Post Office Box 90482, Raleigh, NC 27675)
